The Vespa SXL Matte is the 125cc SXL finished in matte paint, with shades such as Matt Yellow and Matt Red, which give the classic shape a more modern and understated look. Mechanically it is the SXL 125: a 124.5cc single-cylinder, three-valve, carburetted BS4 engine making about 9.6 bhp and 10.1 Nm through a CVT, a 200 mm front disc with a 140 mm rear drum and combined braking (no ABS), an 11-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheel and a steel monocoque body. The SXL styling is the sharper Vespa, with a rectangular headlamp, squarer mirrors and a more upright stance than the rounded VXL.
In Nepal it is sold through Delta Autocorp, the Vespa and Aprilia distributor, with service in Kathmandu and larger cities. Compared with the SXL 150, the Matte gives up some pull on hills for a lighter running cost and the same look, so it is better suited to city commuting than regular hill riding with a pillion. Matte paint also needs more care, since scratches cannot simply be polished out. The usual Vespa trade-offs apply: a heavy body for the power, a small fuel tank and limited storage.
