GAC Aion V Overview
The GAC Aion V is a mid-size electric SUV sold in Nepal by CG Motors, and it is the brand's second Aion model in the market after the Aion Y. It comes in two variants, Elite and Luxury, built around GAC's LFP Magazine battery in either a 62.7 kWh or a 75.3 kWh pack. The Elite claims 520 km and the Luxury 650 km, both on the optimistic NEDC cycle.
Power comes from a single 100 kW front motor making 134 bhp and 240 Nm, which is enough for a 7.9 second 0 to 100 km/h run, so it feels brisk rather than sporty. At 4605 mm long with a 2775 mm wheelbase it sits firmly in mid-size SUV territory, seats five, and offers a 427 litre boot that expands to 987 litres with the rear seats folded. The cabin is where the Aion V tries to stand out, with a 14.6 inch touchscreen, an 8.8 inch driver display, a panoramic glass roof, leatherette seats with heating and ventilation, a 10-speaker system and, on the Luxury variant, an in-armrest refrigerator and massage front seats.
GAC Aion V Pros and Cons
What we like
- Two battery choices (62.7 kWh Elite and 75.3 kWh Luxury) with class-leading headline range of 520 km and 650 km on NEDC, giving strong long-distance flexibility for the segment
- LFP Magazine battery is known for thermal stability and safety, and is backed by a long 8-year warranty on the battery and motor
- Roomy mid-size cabin with a 2775 mm wheelbase and a practical 427 litre boot that expands to 987 litres with the rear seats down
- Well-equipped interior with a 14.6 inch touchscreen, panoramic roof, heated and ventilated seats, 10-speaker audio and, on the Luxury, an armrest refrigerator and massage front seats
- Six airbags plus a driver-assist suite (autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, blind spot monitoring, hill assist) at this price point
- DC fast charging tops the battery from 10 to 80 percent in around an hour, and CG Motors gives it an established dealer and service presence in Nepal
What could be better
- Range is quoted on the NEDC cycle, which is the most optimistic standard, so real-world figures fall noticeably below 520 or 650 km once hills, AC and city traffic are added
- Home AC charging is slow at around 6.6 to 7 kW, taking roughly 10 to 12 hours for a full charge, so daily top-ups need planning
- Ground clearance is moderate (around 175 to 185 mm depending on source) for a large SUV, which limits confidence on very rough or broken Nepali roads
- Front-wheel drive only, with no all-wheel-drive option for slippery hill or monsoon conditions
- Several of the headline features, including the refrigerator, massage seats and driver monitoring system, are reserved for the pricier Luxury variant
- Aion is still a relatively new brand in Nepal, so long-term parts availability and resale value are less proven than for established EV badges
